About this care
Welcome to Wonderberk at Rijksstraatweg 26 in Haarlem. Our beautiful building, the former rectory of Adelbertus Church, provides afternoon after-school care for children aged 4 to 12. The atmospheric spaces with stained glass windows, high ceilings and art-deco details create an environment of peace and security. Behind the building lies a spacious, green and fully enclosed garden with old plane trees, a play hill and our own vegetable garden where children can play, explore and unwind after school.
Our after-school care is based on anthroposophical principles. We work with fixed rhythms and seasons, providing space for free play, creative activities and shared experiences. Children can help with cooking in our homely kitchens, where we exclusively use organic-biodynamic food, sometimes from our own garden. We believe it's important that children can relax after a busy school day in an environment that feels like a second home.
The location is easily accessible with parking near the church and bicycle storage next to the entrance. We currently have some availability for after-school care. Please contact us for more information or to schedule a tour.Read more
GGD Inspection
Violations
Inspection date: August 28, 2026
Strengths
- Pedagogical policy and practice meet all requirements
- Sufficient qualified staff are deployed
- Stable care with fixed base groups and mentorship
- Staff are properly registered in the persons register with Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG)
- Permanent team works according to anthroposophical pedagogy
- Good external emergency backup arranged
Shortcomings
- Furniture in indoor play area is not suitable for all ages (toddler furniture for children up to 13 years)
- Parent committee indicates that co-determination could be improved: not all changes are submitted and meetings are dependent on management
Violations
- Number of registered childcare places (36) does not match actual practice (22); there are insufficient square meters for 36 children. Holder must submit a change request to reduce to 22 places.
Summary
GGD Kennemerland conducted an unannounced annual inspection at after-school care (BSO) de Wonderberk in Haarlem on 28 August 2026. The location provides care for 22 children aged 4 to 12 from the Vrije School Kennemerland, following anthroposophical pedagogy. The report shows a predominantly positive picture with compliance on most quality requirements, but identifies an important administrative shortcoming and a point of attention regarding the accommodation.
