About this care
Welcome to Het Kabouterhuis, a small-scale daycare centre located at Wagenweg 240A in Haarlem. Our centre is set in a wooded area, right next to the protected Vogelbosje nature reserve. We provide care for a maximum of fourteen children in one vertical group, welcoming children from 20 months to 4 years to play, explore and grow together.
Our daily rhythm is simple yet effective: the day begins with free play, followed by a joint circle time around 9.30 a.m. After that, children have plenty of time for outdoor play in our large, green garden that borders directly on the woods. The natural surroundings serve as a rich learning environment; children can run around freely, build sandcastles, collect branches and experience the seasons up close. The garden is safely fenced and offers both shaded and sunny spots.
Inside, we work in one airy group space arranged as a large living room. Different corners have been created where children can read quietly, build or engage in role-play. The furnishings are homely and kept small-scale, so that every child quickly feels at home. We follow fixed daily routines that provide calm and structure without becoming monotonous. In between, there is room for personal initiative and discovery.
Our pedagogical staff know each child personally. Thanks to the limited group size, they can respond well to individual needs and development. We believe it is important that children feel safe and seen, so that they have the space to develop at their own pace. Collaboration with parents is central: we regularly discuss how things are going and align our approach with what is happening at home.
In short, Het Kabouterhuis is a place where children can be who they are, surrounded by nature, peace and personal attention.Read more

Summary
GGD Kennemerland conducted an unannounced follow-up inspection at daycare center (kinderdagverblijf/KDV) Het Kabouterhuis in Haarlem on 9 June 2026. This inspection aimed to verify whether previously identified shortcomings from the inspection of 17 April 2025 had been resolved. The location provides care for 30 children aged 2 to 4 years in two core groups, housed in a scouting building in a wooded area. All assessed quality requirements (administration, pedagogical climate, staff and groups) are now being met. The previously identified violations concerned missing administration (staff details and deployment of employees in training), insufficiently concrete pedagogical policy, and shortcomings in staff deployment, core group stability and consistent caregivers. The holder has adjusted the policy, completed the administration, and improved working methods regarding merging of groups and consistent caregivers. The inspector finds that practice now corresponds with policy.
