About this care
Welcome to Thuishuis De Kleine Gast, a warm and small-scale daycare centre located at Scheiding 7A in Opende. Our facility offers childcare for up to 16 children aged 0 to 4 years. We work with vertical groups, where children of different ages play and learn together. Our team of experienced and enthusiastic childcare professionals – led by owner Foekje de Haan – provides a homely and safe environment every day.
Everything we do is centred around genuine attention and personal care. We offer plenty of space to play, both indoors and outdoors. Our outdoor area is richly equipped and offers lots of fun: there are goats and pigs the children can care for and observe, and a large garden to run, explore and romp around in. We regularly go on outings: walks, visits to the library, or searching for natural treasures. Indoors, we do arts and crafts, read aloud and play, but there is also always a quiet spot to take a break.
Our approach is small-scale and personal. We do not use fixed half-day sessions; you only pay for the hours you actually book. In addition, there are five holiday weeks for which you do not pay childcare fees. We meet all legal requirements of the GGD and work according to a clear pedagogical policy plan, with development, safety and well-being at its core.

Summary
Thuishuis De Kleine Gast in Opende is a small-scale daycare center (kinderdagverblijf/KDV) for 15 children aged 2 to 4 years. The Municipal Health Service (GGD) Groningen conducted an unannounced annual inspection on 16 January 2026 on behalf of the municipality of Westerkwartier. The location meets all assessed quality requirements in the domains of pedagogical climate, staff and groups, safety and health, accommodation, and parental rights. Two remarks were noted regarding safety and health: an open storage space for outdoor play equipment that does not correspond with the action plan, and two children's bicycles with missing rubber handle grips. The provider has given explanations and evaluated the arrangements. No recovery offer was made. The GGD advises no enforcement action.
