About this care
Kinderdagverblijf de Toverlantaarn is located in the characteristic Jeruzalem neighborhood, in the heart of the Watergraafsmeer district. For generations, we have been providing loving care to children aged 0 to 4 years. Our daycare center is housed in a charming building with a warm, homely atmosphere where children can develop safely and freely.
We welcome children from 0 to 4 years in our daycare, where they get the chance to play, learn and grow in a stimulating environment. Our spacious location is centrally located and has a cozy and homely atmosphere. We offer both full and half-day care, allowing parents to flexibly adjust to their personal situation.
At Swaan, the organization behind Kinderdagverblijf de Toverlantaarn, the development of each child is central. Our experienced pedagogical staff create a safe and familiar environment in which children can develop optimally. We work with sustainable play materials and our atmospheric spaces invite wonder and discovery.
Our stable team of experienced pedagogical staff is ready every day to provide your child with the best care. We find it important that every child feels seen and heard, and we pay a lot of attention to the individual development of each child.Read more

- Children are encouraged in their independence and personal skills
- Preschool education is offered extensively (24-30 hours per week)

- Open communication with the inspector and immediate processing of new information
- Safe sleeping policy is well adhered to
- Care structure is clear and parents are involved
Shortcomings

- The holder was not aware of Amsterdam start qualification requirements for substitute staff in the preschool
Summary
The annual inspection by GGD Amsterdam on 27 February 2026 shows that daycare center (kinderdagverblijf/KDV) de Toverlantaarn, part of Stichting Swaan, meets all quality requirements. The location in Amsterdam-Watergraafsmeer provides care for 104 children across 8 groups, including preschool education with the Piramide programme. The pedagogical practice is assessed positively: staff provide emotional safety, encourage independence, and follow children's lead. No violations were identified. However, one point of attention was noted: the play and learning environment in the preschool is sufficient but minimalist, and will be addressed in the upcoming location investigation VVE. A substitute staff member on the day of inspection met statutory but not Amsterdam start qualification requirements; as this was not a permanent staff member, this does not constitute a violation. The holder was unaware of this and has since been informed.
