About this care
Welcome to KDV het Schommeltje, located at Kerkstraat 243 in the heart of Hoogezand. We offer small-scale, homely childcare for up to six children aged 0 to 4. In our vertical group, babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers grow up together as one big, warm family.
Cosiness is our hallmark. Children are free to choose what they want to do: sing and dance in the living room, craft at the big table or pick a book from the shelf. We believe this freedom builds self-confidence and independence. Our pedagogical staff are ready to guide when needed, but first let children explore and try for themselves.
Our spacious, green garden is a true play oasis. Here children can romp safely, bake sand pies or go on discovery trips together. We regularly visit the petting zoo, city park or playground so the outside world becomes part of their daily development.
We deliberately keep groups small so every child receives the attention they deserve. Our bedrooms offer peace and regularity; the fixed daily rhythm helps children feel safe and secure. Sleeping, eating and playing are tuned to your child’s personal rhythm.
At het Schommeltje we value social development as much as motor or language skills. Mixed ages let children learn from each other: older toddlers help the babies and the little ones look admiringly at the big kids. This way they naturally practise consideration, cooperation and comforting each other.
Our team has completed a Positive Parenting course. We set clear, friendly boundaries and mainly explain what is allowed. This brings calm and clarity. Your child will feel at home with us – coming to het Schommeltje with pleasure is our greatest compliment.

Strengths
- Accommodation is safe and appropriately set up; play equipment and hazardous materials have been removed
- New pedagogical policy plan (April 2026) now contains concrete descriptions of working methods, three-hour rule, settling-in period, mentorship, and outings
- Interns are deployed above the standard staff-to-child ratio in accordance with the rules
- Parents are involved in intended policy changes through letters

- Qualified staff-to-child ratio: insufficient documentation to prove that sufficient qualified staff members were deployed; schedules only show planned hours, not actual attendance
- Pedagogical policy staff member: insufficiently demonstrated that coaching took place in 2025; distribution of hours was not correct
- Safety and health policy: policy does not lead to safeguarding of safety and health; missing action plan with deadlines; backup supervision arrangement is not carried out in accordance with schedules
- First aid (EHBO): not demonstrated that a qualified first aider is always present; certificates had expired at the time of the inspection
- Reporting code: knowledge and use are insufficiently promoted; not demonstrable in minutes or documentation
- Reporting, consultation and notification obligation: no documentation that staff members have been instructed or trained
- Parental rights information: website is poorly accessible, link to pedagogical policy does not work, safety policy is an outdated version; inspection reports are difficult to find
- Parent committee: insufficient demonstrable effort to establish a parent committee; no evidence of active recruitment
Summary
