About this care
Peuterspeel- en leergroep Hummeltjeshonk is located within primary school De Trimaran in the Nieuw Den Helder district. We provide a safe and stimulating environment for children aged 2 to 4. Our qualified staff guide each child’s development through play-based learning.
Our programme is officially recognised as early childhood education (VE) and follows the Uk & Puk curriculum, which supports language, motor, social and cognitive skills in a playful way. Children are placed in small, same-age groups (horizontal grouping) to ensure individual attention.
Being situated inside the school building helps children become familiar with a school setting early on, making the eventual transition to primary school easier. Parents are encouraged to take part in activities and decision-making, as we are a parent-participation centre.

Summary
Daycare center (kinderdagverblijf/KDV) Hummeltjeshonk in Den Helder (part of Monter kinderopvang) provides toddler care for 16 children aged 2–4 and is registered for subsidised early childhood education (voorschoolse educatie/VE). During the unannounced annual inspection visit on 20 November 2025, it was established that all assessed statutory requirements are being met. The pedagogical practice received praise: the team responds sensitively and responsively, offers a clear daily structure, and succeeds in turning unexpected moments (such as the first snowfall) into educational activities. The Startblokken VE programme is worked out in concrete themes that connect with children's lived experience; parents are actively involved and progress is tracked digitally. All childcare professionals hold the required diplomas and 3F language proficiency level; they receive annual coaching from a pedagogical policy officer. Persons with access to the location are correctly registered in the Childcare Persons Register and in possession of a Certificate of Conduct (Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag/VOG). No violations or areas for improvement were identified. The Municipal Health Service (GGD) advises the municipality of Den Helder not to take enforcement measures.
