About this care
Welcome to De Villa, a special parent-participation crèche in Utrecht-Oost. For 51 years, parents have been running this childcare together, right near the Stadsschouwburg. This means that as a parent, you yourself spend one (part) day per week in the group, working together with other parents to care for the children.
We offer daycare for children from 6 months old, in a vertical group of up to 12 children. Our location in a former school building has two childcare rooms, a separate gym/play room, and a uniquely spacious outdoor area with lots of greenery, a covered sandpit, slide, swings, and a bicycle course. There is plenty of toys, craft materials, and a wealth of picture books. For children who nap in the afternoon, there are separate bedrooms.
De Villa is an officially recognised parent-participation crèche (OPC) that meets all legal requirements and is inspected annually by the GGD (Municipal Health Service). The hourly rate is €4.85 per hour (2026) and you are entitled to childcare benefit (kinderopvangtoeslag). You can choose from 2, 3 or 5 days per week, with flexible drop-off times between 8:15 and 9:30.
At De Villa, it's all about enthusiasm, involvement, and trust. Parents are well supported with a settling-in period, a mentor, and mandatory professional development evenings. Summary
De Villa in Utrecht, a parent participation daycare center (kinderdagverblijf/KDV) for 24 children, was inspected on 6 November 2025. The location does not meet all quality requirements. There were two shortcomings: an incomplete description of stability for babies in the pedagogical policy (remedied via recovery offer) and a serious violation concerning the Certificate of Conduct (VOG) and Childcare Persons Register. A new rotating parent worked for seven months without correct linkage in the register, despite holding a valid VOG. The operator self-reported this and addressed it, but the violation remained. The pedagogical practice was assessed as sufficient: rotating parents act sensitively and responsively, children feel emotionally safe. The Municipal Health Service (GGD) advises enforcement for the VOG violation.
