De Grote Machinist

De Grote Machinist is KomKids’ dedicated Art & Culture after-school location, situated inside primary school Müllerpier on Coolhaven Island, Rotterdam. We provide out-of-school care for up to 44 children aged 4–12 who attend Müllerpier. Our centre at Sint-Jobskade 14 is open Monday to Friday from 07:00 to 18:30, offering care before school, in the afternoon, on additional school-free days and throughout all school holidays. What sets us apart is our intensive collaboration with renowned Rotterdam cultural partners. Together with professional instructors from MAAS theatre & dance, KITE and children’s studio Punt 5 we deliver an amazing programme of creative activities. On Tuesdays the children dance their hearts out at MAAS, on Thursdays they dive into technology or art lessons with KITE, and on Mondays they refine their etching techniques at Punt 5 – all within walking distance of our base. Our pedagogical approach starts from a safe, familiar environment where children are given space to develop broadly. We believe in the power of art and culture to spark curiosity, build confidence and foster collaboration. Throughout the year we run themed holiday programmes; during the 2025 summer break everything revolves around the ‘Summer Bucket’, with a surprise activity pulled from the bucket every day – from splashy water fights to sunny craft challenges. Parents are actively involved through our enthusiastic parent committee, which meets with the location manager four times a year and organises two lively parent evenings annually. At De Grote Machinist children don’t just receive care, they discover an inspiring place where they can further explore and develop their talents after school.
