About this care
BSO de Buitenkans is located in the beautiful Waldorf building of primary school De Aquamarijn at Willem Arondeusstraat 59 in Middelburg. As part of ISTIA Childcare, we provide professional after-school care for up to 33 children aged 4 to 12 years. We follow the same anthroposophical pedagogical principles as the school, with the child's wellbeing at the center of everything we do.
Our BSO is designed to offer children a safe and familiar place where they can relax and develop after school. Children can participate in various creative activities such as drawing, painting and crafts in our studio. There is also plenty of room for free play and outdoor activities in our natural play environment.
We offer both before-school care (VSO) and after-school care (NSO). On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, NSO is open from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Wednesday from 12:30 PM to 4:00 PM and Friday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. VSO is available on Thursday and Friday from 7:15 AM to 8:30 AM. During study days and school holidays, we operate adjusted opening hours.
Our pedagogical staff are specialized in guiding children in an anthroposophical environment. They provide warm, personal attention and stimulate each child's development at their own pace. For more information and registrations, please contact coordinator Jelka Matlung.Read more
GGD Inspection
Violations
Inspection date: November 18, 2025
Strengths
- Pedagogical climate: sensitive and responsive approach by childcare professionals
- Emotional safety and respect for children's autonomy
- Varied activities aligned with developmental level and interests
- Effective stimulation of social, cognitive and creative skills
- All staff members correctly registered in the Childcare Personnel Register
- Sufficiently qualified staff and pedagogical policy staff members
- Correct calculation and documentation of hours allocated to pedagogical policy staff
Violations
- No parent committee established six months after registration, despite obligation with 56 registered children (repeat offense, also identified in November 2024)
Summary
De Aquamarijn BSO De Buitenkans is an after-school care (BSO) in Middelburg for 56 children (ages 4-13), located in primary school De Aquamarijn. The inspection presents a mixed picture: the pedagogical climate and personnel matters are satisfactory, but there is a repeat violation in the area of parent participation. The childcare professionals work sensitively and responsively, provide emotional safety, and effectively stimulate children's development. All staff members are correctly registered and meet qualification requirements. The most significant shortcoming concerns the absence of a parent committee, despite the location being obligated to establish one with 56 registered children. The holder has made attempts to recruit parents and offers alternative consultation via email and parent portal, which is considered a mitigating circumstance.
