About this care
BSO de Bikkels is located at Stampioendreef 3 in Bergschenhoek, right next to primary school De Willibrord and surrounded by three local schools. Since 2010 we have provided out-of-school care for up to 110 children aged 4 to 12. Our location is part of Catalpa Out-of-School Care and is officially registered in the National Childcare Register under number 139191902.
Our spacious, modern group room is set in the school’s celebration hall and is divided into two home groups: the Bikkels (max. 20 children) and Bikkels 1 (max. 10 children). Each group has its own colour and a dedicated pedagogical employee who acts as a personal mentor, ensuring every child receives individual attention and parents always know whom to approach.
Outside, children enjoy a large green playground with climbing frames, a nature garden, paved areas and challenging balance beams. After school they can run, climb and explore to their heart’s content. We safely walk children to and from nearby schools; for schools a little further away we use our own cars and Stints.
During every school holiday we offer a varied activity programme—think sports days, creative workshops, trips to the beach, Madurodam or a playground, and themed weekends such as film-making or building bird houses. Activities are announced well in advance through a digital flyer and our parent app.
Parents use the app to register or deregister their child, request extra incidental care and stay informed about the day’s adventures. We believe open cooperation with parents is essential to bringing out the best in every child. Summary
This inspection report concerns a follow-up investigation into after-school care (BSO) de Bikkels in Bergschenhoek, conducted by the Municipal Health Service (GGD) Rotterdam-Rijnmond on behalf of the municipality of Lansingerland. The investigation was a follow-up to an earlier annual inspection on 10 July 2025, during which violations were identified regarding pedagogical policy and pedagogical practice. The location, part of Smallsteps B.V., provides care for children aged 4 to 13 with 110 registered places, but currently cares for a maximum of 40 children per day. The provider has taken measures: reducing the number of children in care, additional deployment of a pedagogical coach, and establishing group rules. During this follow-up inspection, the previous violations were no longer identified. The pedagogical practice now meets all quality requirements: emotional safety, personal competence, social competence, and the transmission of norms and values are all assured.
