About this care
Welcome to BSO ’t Strand, the after-school care centre in the heart of Elst where children aged 4 to 12 can truly be themselves after the school day ends. We are located at Mozartstraat 12 in the De Helster neighbourhood and have room for up to 140 children. Since 1 January 2025 we have been officially registered in the National Childcare Register under number 243879647, meeting all statutory quality requirements. BSO ’t Strand is part of childcare organisation De Kikkerkoning, a warm family where love and connection are at the core.
Our site offers a green and spacious playground and several themed indoor areas. Children can express themselves in our studio, where they get creative with paper, paint, clay, fabric and beads in ‘a hundred languages’. Everything is placed at child height so they can create their own artworks independently. Our pedagogical staff guide when needed, but the children are in charge of their own creative process. We also have a real children’s kitchen where little chefs can cook and bake, and a woodworking corner with benches for sawing, hammering and gluing. From bird houses to miniature villages: the most beautiful creations are made here every day. Older children even have access to glue guns, screwdrivers and a drill to experiment with.
BSO ’t Strand works together with all primary schools in Elst. We pick children up and take them to class when necessary. We also offer before-school care from 7.30 a.m. Our location is a place where children can play, discover and learn in freedom. We believe every child is talented and give them the space to develop that talent. Strengths
- Pedagogical practice: children are given space to choose their own activities and are supported in their personal and social development
- Safety and health: sound policy with concrete risk measures, including supervision during hazardous activities such as glue gun use
- Accommodation: sufficient indoor and outdoor space, safely and appropriately furnished
- Staff: all childcare professionals hold the correct qualifications and meet the IKK language requirement
- Parent rights: good information provision, active parent committee and complaints procedure

- The pedagogical policy plan did not contain a concrete description of the working method, maximum size and age composition of the base groups during school holidays (corrected following recovery offer)
- The document 'pedagogical coaches' did not contain a description of how available coaching and policy hours were distributed across the various childcare centers (corrected following recovery offer)
Summary
This inspection report concerns an annual investigation of after-school care (BSO) 't Strand in Elst, part of Kinderopvang De Kikkerkoning. The location provides care for 140 children aged 4 to 13 years in 13 base groups. Almost all areas complied with legislation and regulations immediately. Two violations were identified for which a recovery offer was issued: the pedagogical policy plan lacked a description of the holiday working method with different age groups, and the 'pedagogical coaches' document lacked insight into the distribution of coaching hours across multiple locations. The provider corrected both violations within the deadline. The pedagogical practice was assessed positively: children are given space for their own choices, are supported in their development and communication is open. Safety, accommodation, staff qualifications and parent rights all complied. The advice to the municipality is: no enforcement action.
