About this care
Welcome to BSO De Stuurman, our modern after-school care centre located at Oranjelaan 3 in the heart of Waddinxveen. As part of Quadrant Kindercentra, we offer a fully sustainable and bright facility with space for up to 44 school children aged 4 to 13. Registered since 23 September 2024 and officially opened in October 2024, we provide a fresh, central location where children can unwind after a busy school day.
Our philosophy is simple: time after school is free time. Children decide for themselves what they want to do. Our two large, light-filled rooms are arranged into different corners so children can choose to join the activity programme or pursue their own ideas. Every fortnight our pedagogical staff create a new activity schedule, varying from arts and crafts to cooking, from nature education to sports and games. We apply Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences, expressing each intelligence as a ‘KNAP’ (talent). This ensures our activities always connect with the child’s world, allowing them to develop broadly through play.
A fixed daily rhythm offers calm and familiarity. After school we collect children directly at Theo Thijssenschool and bring them to De Stuurman. At 15:00 we sit together at the table enjoying assorted fruit with water or tea while chatting about the school day. Around 15:30 the day’s activity begins, participation is voluntary. At 17:00 a light meal such as a cracker or something prepared during a cooking activity is served. Between 17:15 and 18:30 parents pick up their children.
During holidays we run a special holiday programme with fun outings and extra activities. Our large natural outdoor playground invites energetic play when staying inside is no longer an option. Altogether, BSO De Stuurman is a safe, challenging place where children can simply be themselves after school.Read more
