Subsidy & costs
Childminder (gastouder) care through ViaViela is formal childcare, which means parents can claim childcare benefit (kinderopvangtoeslag) from the Tax and Customs Administration. To qualify, you must be working, studying or following an integration programme. ViaViela and all affiliated childminders are registered in the National Childcare Register (LRK), a requirement for receiving benefit. The maximum hourly rate for which you can claim benefit is €7.53 (2024). You can claim benefit for up to 230 hours per child per month. ViaViela helps you with a customised calculation of your net childcare costs.
Childminder (gastouder) care through ViaViela consists of two cost components: an hourly rate for the childminder (on average €6.25 to €8.95 per child per hour) and a monthly agency fee for placement and guidance. The agency fee is an all-in rate with no registration costs and depends on the number of care hours, number of children and region. Childminder care is on average 20% cheaper than other forms of childcare. After deduction of childcare benefit (kinderopvangtoeslag), net costs can come out at €0.50 per child per hour or higher, depending on your personal situation. Trust & screening
Before a childminder (gastouder) is placed through ViaViela, she undergoes careful screening and selection. Childminders must hold all required diplomas and a Certificate of Conduct (VOG). The care location is checked for safety and hygiene in accordance with legal requirements. ViaViela visits childminders regularly to verify that they continue to meet all quality standards, and provides continuing professional development and pedagogical support.
ViaViela and all affiliated childminders are registered in the National Childcare Register (LRK). Childminders hold all required diplomas and a Certificate of Conduct (VOG). We conduct regular visits to check that care locations comply with all safety and hygiene regulations. The GGD (municipal health service) inspects childminders every two years and childminder agencies annually. ViaViela has an internal complaints procedure in accordance with the Childcare Act and an active parent committee.
