About this care
Welcome to daycare Toermalijn, part of Junis Kinderopvang, located at Halverwege 5 in Alphen aan den Rijn. We offer childcare for children from 6 weeks to 4 years old in a safe, home-like and stimulating environment where play, discovery and development are central.
Our location features a large, green garden that was renovated in 2020. Here, children can ride bikes, run, play in the sandbox and slide down the hill. We regularly use this outdoor space to connect children with nature and encourage physical activity. We also organise outings to a local care home, petting zoo and playground. Together with elderly residents, we sing songs and do movement activities.
We work with small groups and use a vertical grouping structure, meaning children of different ages play and learn together. This supports social development and interaction between younger and older children. For the youngest ones, we have quiet baby corners where they can sleep, play and cuddle in a low-stimulus environment.
At Toermalijn, we believe every child should feel safe and secure. Our pedagogical staff follow each child’s development with warmth and care. We offer Early Childhood Education (VVE) to stimulate language development and social skills. We read stories daily, sing songs and make time for cuddles and personal attention.

Summary
Daycare center (kinderdagverblijf/KDV) Toermalijn of Stichting Junis Kinderopvang in Alphen aan den Rijn was subject to an unannounced incidental investigation on 2 December 2025 following signals regarding safety problems. The investigation focused on safety and health policy. Two deficiencies were identified: a missing risk analysis for the side room with barn door, and insufficient staff familiarity with protocols for incidents. This became apparent after a fall incident on 19 November 2025 in which a toddler fell on their head. The Municipal Health Service (GGD) issued a recovery offer, after which the location submitted an adjusted plan of approach with concrete measures regarding supervision of the side room and staff instruction. Following the recovery offer, the location once again meets the requirements.
