About this care
Welcome to SportBSO De Karmel, the sporty after-school care in Bergen op Zoom! Located inside the De Karmel sports centre at Karmel 4, we offer children aged 4 to 13 a safe and active place to move, play and discover every day.
Our location is unique: childcare IN the gym! After school, children are picked up from various primary schools in the area and enter a world of sport and play. Every day focuses on movement. We provide a daily sports session and regularly organise trips to sports clubs, swimming pools, playgrounds, the beach, heathland and forests. Our pedagogical staff guide children in exploring different sports and encourage them to develop their motor skills.
Besides sports, there is also room for rest and creativity. Children can draw, craft, build or simply relax. We work with an adaptive pedagogical policy that takes into account each child's unique characteristics. Child participation is highly valued: children are encouraged to think along about activities, rules and group setup.
Our opening hours are flexible: after-school care from 14:00 to 18:15, and on Wednesdays and Fridays from 11:45 to 18:15. During school holidays we provide care from 07:00 to 18:15. Summary
SportBSO De Karmel in Bergen op Zoom is an after-school care (BSO) for up to 150 children aged 4–13. The follow-up inspection of 15 April 2026 was conducted subsequent to the annual inspection of 29 September 2025, at which two violations had been identified. The location was found to be non-compliant with the rules regarding Certificates of Good Conduct (VOG) and the Childcare Personnel Register, as well as the requirements for the number of qualified staff members. A volunteer was not registered and did not have a VOG, and was briefly alone with children without the required professional qualification. At the follow-up inspection, it was found that both violations had been resolved: the volunteer applied for a VOG (approved on 24 October 2025) and has been linked in the register, and the scheduling has been adjusted so that only qualified staff members are deployed as part of the formal staff complement. The location now complies with all legal requirements.
