About this care
Peuterspeelschool St. Jan is located in the monumental building of IKC Sint Jan at Oude Postweg 55 in Hengelo. As part of IKC Sint Jan, we offer toddlers aged 2.5 to 4 years a playful preparation for primary school. We operate two groups where children are cared for 8 hours (2 half-days) or 16 hours (4 half-days) per week. Our experienced pedagogical staff provide a safe and stimulating environment where children learn and develop through play. We pay attention to healthy eating and provide fruit and drinks. The toddler daycare accommodates a maximum of 28 children (ages 2.5–4 years) in two core groups (stamgroepen) and is part of Integraal Kindcentrum (IKC) St. Jan. The inspection was an annual review. The pedagogical practice scores well: staff interact with children sensitively and responsively, there is a relaxed atmosphere, and activities are child-led. Early childhood education (Startblokken programme), personnel matters, complaints procedure, and stability meet the requirements. However, the pedagogical policy plan lacked a description of working methods, size, and staffing of the core groups. A recovery offer was issued; the shortcoming was resolved on 13 May 2026. The advice to the municipality is: no enforcement action.
