About this care
Welcome to Ontdekkingsreis at Bart Crumstraat 10 in the wooded village of Heelsum! Our cosy, small-scale after-school care (BSO) offers 72 places for adventurers aged 4 to 12. We pick the children up every day from nearby primary schools and bring them safely to our spacious location with a 1,300 m² garden.
Our motto is “a safe voyage of discovery in a homely atmosphere”. Our permanent, enthusiastic pedagogical staff give every child personal attention and guide them during their free time. We provide a wide range of activities: creative craft corners, sports and games, cooking in the outdoor kitchen, music and dance sessions, and regular trips to the woods and the children’s farm.
Children decide for themselves whether to join an activity or simply relax in a quiet corner. Each child has a personal mentor, so parents always have a fixed point of contact. Everything is arranged through our parent app: requesting extra days, reporting illness or swapping sessions.

Strengths
- The pedagogical policy is well developed and staff are fully informed
- All employees are correctly registered in the childcare personnel register
- Safety measures are clearly visible in practice (emergency lists for allergies, first aid kits, hand hygiene)
- Indoor and outdoor spaces comfortably exceed the requirements (255.2 m² indoors, spacious outdoor area)
- Parents are well informed via the website, newsletters and parent portal
- Active parent committee of three members in place
Shortcomings
- Location-specific safety measures for playing on the grass field outside the BSO must be included in the safety and health plan
- Safety and health protocols have not been shared with staff in recent months due to management changes; this will be addressed in April 2026
- Group room 14 was not fully set up for children during the inspection; immediately cleared by the location manager
