About this care
Welcome to Kindergarden Voormalige Stadstimmertuin in Amsterdam Centrum! Our after-school care is located in the characteristic former Jewish Lyceum, a unique and impressive building with fantastic spaces, each with its own theme. We provide care for up to 66 children aged 4 to 12 years.
A day at our BSO is not an extension of school, but a cool adventure! We work with themes to which we link various activities. Children can participate in workshops, get creative in our studio, or quietly sit in a corner with a book. The activities match the interests and needs of the children. With the older children, we discuss what they would like to see in the program, what play materials they would like, and what rules we agree on together.
Outside, children can play sports, climb and play games in our playground. During holidays, we go to Jeugdland or can be found on the school playground. With the theme 'On the farm', we naturally also visit the petting zoo. Our location is right in the center of Amsterdam, close to Carré and within walking distance of the Dutch National Bank. There is paid parking in the immediate vicinity.
The combination of making decisions together, peace and structure ensures that our BSO is a pleasant and interesting place for all children.Read more
GGD Inspection
Improvements needed
Inspection date: August 18, 2025
Strengths
- Children experience emotional security through a predictable daily routine and engaged staff members
- Sufficient qualified personnel present; all employees registered in the PRK (Personnel Register Childcare)
- At least one first-aid-qualified adult always present
- New protocols following an incident ensure safety during outings
- Children are given space for their own choices and creative development
Shortcomings
- New staff members are not yet fully familiar with all outing protocols
- Verification of diplomas and study credits for temporary agency workers needs to be more rigorous
Summary
The Municipal Health Service (GGD) inspection of 18 August 2025 concludes that Kindergarden Amsterdam Voormalige Stadstimmertuin (after-school care/BSO) meets all inspected quality requirements. The after-school care (BSO) provides a safe and stimulating environment in which children feel emotionally secure and are free to play. The team is sufficiently qualified and present, and the safety and health policy is in order. However, a serious incident occurred on 20 February 2025, when a child was left behind after an outing. The organisation responded adequately with tightened protocols, additional control measures, and clear responsibilities. No violations were identified. The municipality is advised to take note of this report.
