Welcome to Het Toverbos, located at Haverweg 63 in Rheden. We are a daycare centre for children aged 0 to 4, where every child can grow up with joy and confidence. Our core values are safety, trust and learning through play.
Safety is our top priority. We carry out an annual risk assessment and have child-proofed every room: sockets are placed high and secured, door strips prevent little fingers from getting trapped, and the entire playground is enclosed by a sturdy fence. Yet safety is more than physical protection. Our qualified pedagogical staff make sure every child feels emotionally secure, enabling full development and discovery of the world around them.
We believe that play equals learning. Therefore we offer age-specific activities. Babies explore different textures and gaze at themselves in mirrors. Toddlers (around 2–2.5 years) join small-group sessions: we sit in a circle, take turns telling stories, learn colours, shapes, emotions and letters through playful cards, and sing songs—sometimes in English. This gentle preparation smooths the transition to primary school. We regularly take a small group of toddlers to visit a local primary school in Rheden, letting them become familiar with the building and meet older children.

Following the recovery offer, the location now meets all assessed quality requirements. The pedagogical climate and staffing matters were in order immediately. There were initially shortcomings regarding safety and health, but these have been resolved.
Strengths
- The pedagogical policy is well developed and discussed in team meetings
- All childcare professionals and regular visitors are correctly registered in the persons register
- The location has an up-to-date safety and health policy with concrete protocols
- Swift and adequate response to the recovery offer with concrete improvement measures
Violations
- Childcare professionals did not act in accordance with the safety and health policy: a child younger than 18 months slept in a stroller, hand hygiene was not always observed, cleaning schedules were missing, professionals were unfamiliar with the backup care arrangement and had no insight into the current policy
- The domestic violence and child abuse reporting code (meldcode) was insufficiently implemented: an outdated version was present at the location, professionals had insufficient knowledge of the step-by-step plan and did not know where to find the current version
- Reporting, consultation and notification obligation: professionals did not know where to find the current reporting code and protocol on transgressive behaviour, and could not provide an example of knowledge enhancement
Summary
The annual inspection on 23 April 2026 at daycare center (kinderdagverblijf/KDV) Het Toverbos in Rheden showed a mixed picture. All requirements were met immediately regarding pedagogical climate and staff/groups. However, several shortcomings were identified in safety and health, for which a recovery offer was made. The location has successfully resolved these shortcomings. The Municipal Health Service (GGD) advises against enforcement action.
