About this care
Welcome to Het Baken, our daycare center located in the heart of Harlingen. We provide care for children aged 0 to 4 years in a safe and familiar environment. Our location at Johan van Oldenbarneveltstraat 4 is part of the Integral Child Center (IKC) het bAken, where children from 0 to 13 years can receive care and education. For our youngest children, we have specially designed groups with a clear daily structure and a strong focus on each child's individual development. We offer free preschool education for toddlers aged 2 and 3, using nationally recognized programs focused on language, math, motor skills, and social-emotional development. Our childcare professionals create a warm and stimulating environment where children can play, discover, and grow. Summary
A Municipal Health Service (GGD) inspection on 22 September 2025 at daycare center (kinderdagverblijf/KDV) Het Baken in Harlingen assessed whether the location met the requirements for indoor play space and fire safety. These points had been violated in 2024 and early 2025. During the follow-up investigation, it emerged that the organisation has structurally taken additional spaces into use (a play corridor and a movement room learning plaza), making 3.5–5 m² of indoor play space per child now available. The corridor is no longer being blocked as an escape route. The violation has therefore been resolved; enforcement is not necessary. The centre accommodates 32 children (ages 0-4) and operates with two fixed core groups, a toddler group and a play-learn group (ages 3-6) which is shared with the primary school. Subsidised early childhood education is provided. No other shortcomings were identified.
