About this care
Welcome to De Toverboom, a small-scale daycare centre located at Broekweg 23 in Valkenburg. We provide care for up to 23 children in two vertical groups of 12 children each, where babies, toddlers and preschoolers play and learn together. By deliberately keeping our groups small we safeguard peace and individual attention; whenever necessary we schedule more staff than the statutory ratio requires.
Our educational philosophy is inspired by the insights of respected pedagogues such as Alfie Kohn, Rudolf Steiner, Thomas Gordon, Emmi Pikler, Maria Montessori and Aletha Solter. This results in a warm, homely atmosphere that mirrors family life. Children take part in daily activities like baking bread, harvesting from our vegetable garden, sweeping the yard and hanging laundry. These practical experiences not only stimulate fine-motor skills but also foster responsibility and togetherness.
De Toverboom has a spacious garden that invites outdoor play and nature exploration. Every day there is room for free discovery in this safe, green environment. Because we work with permanent carers, children grow up in trust and familiarity, which forms the basis for their development. Our door is always open for parents who wish to experience our approach and atmosphere first-hand.

Practical info
Settling in
The settling-in period is built up gradually, in consultation with parents. The standard approach is 2 hours of settling in on the first day, 4 hours on the second day, followed by a half day and finally a full day. The settling-in policy is tailored to each child and parent and is discussed during the intake interview. The settling-in period (wenperiode) cannot take place before the start of the contract.

Summary
Daycare center (kinderdagverblijf/KDV) De Toverboom in Valkenburg was subject to an unannounced follow-up inspection by the Municipal Health Service (GGD) Hollands Midden on 4 March 2026. This inspection followed an annual inspection on 1 October 2025 during which a shortcoming was identified: not all childcare professionals held the required qualifications and baby training. The operator drew up an action plan and has sustainably resolved the shortcoming. The staff members concerned have since obtained the necessary diplomas and baby training. During the repeat visit, it was found that the location now meets all assessed quality requirements, including the deployment of sufficiently qualified personnel. The advice to the municipality of Katwijk is: no enforcement action.
