About this care
Heemhuys Zonnekind is a small-scale daycare centre located at Weteringstraat 275 in Rotterdam-Kralingen. As part of the Heemhuys organisation, we provide care for up to 10 children aged 0 to 4 years in a homely, living-room atmosphere. Our approach is based on the anthroposophical view of the human being, where each child is seen and guided as a unique individual.
At Heemhuys Zonnekind we work with vertical groups where children of different ages play and learn together. We believe it's important that children feel safe and secure. Therefore our space is furnished as a warm living room with natural materials and seasonal accents. Children are involved in daily activities such as cooking, washing dishes, hanging laundry and cleaning toys. This contributes to their development and gives them a sense of belonging.
We pay great attention to rhythm and regularity. The days are structured with fixed moments for playing, eating, sleeping and outdoor play. We use organic and seasonal products for meals which we prepare together with the children. Singing, crafting and imaginative play are daily activities that stimulate creative development. Our connection with nature is strongly present: we go outside as much as possible and actively experience the seasons through seasonal tables and annual festivals.
Our pedagogical staff are trained in the Heemhuys vision and provide each child with the individual attention they deserve. We work with familiar faces so that children always see the same trusted carers. Summary
Heem huys Zonnekind is a small-scale anthroposophical daycare center (kinderdagverblijf/KDV) in Rotterdam with 10 places for children aged 0-4. The annual unannounced inspection visit on 2 September 2025 shows that the location now meets all inspected legal quality requirements. The pedagogical policy is clearly described and well implemented in practice: children experience emotional safety, are playfully stimulated in their development, and learn social skills. All staff hold the required diplomas, Certificate of Conduct (VOG) declarations, and registration in the Persons Register; the staff-to-child ratio was correct at all inspected moments. The stability of care has been restored: familiar faces are back and replacement is arranged according to regulations. The domestic violence reporting code and the mandatory reporting, consultation, and filing obligations have been brought to attention again through training and team meetings; staff now know their responsibilities. The complaints procedure has been documented in writing and the location is affiliated with the Childcare Disputes Committee (Geschillencommissie Kinderopvang). No written complaints have been received. The previous inspection (November 2024) identified violations regarding stability, reporting code, and mandatory reporting; these have all since been resolved. The municipality receives the advice not to enforce.
