Subsidy & costs
For childminder care (gastouderopvang), you can apply for childcare benefit (kinderopvangtoeslag) via the Tax and Customs Administration. The actual costs depend on your income. The maximum hourly rate set by the Tax and Customs Administration (the amount up to which you are reimbursed) is €8.49 per child per hour in 2026.
The rates shown are gross costs. A childminder (gastouder) sets their own hourly rate, with a guideline of €7 per hour per child. In addition, there are placement fees for Gastouderbureau We Care: €1.29 per hour per child (for 86 hours or more per month on average), €1.69 per hour (51-85 hours), or €1.99 per hour (0-50 hours). GOB We Care thoroughly screens childminders (gastouders) before placing them. Childminders (gastouders) must hold a Certificate of Conduct (VOG), be registered in the Persons Register, and hold at least an MBO-2 diploma in care and wellbeing or an experience certificate. Household members over 18 must also have a VOG and be registered. Childminders (gastouders) are only placed once they have been entered in the National Childcare Register (LRK) and meet all quality requirements.
