Christelijk Gastouderbureau De Herberg is the first and largest Christian childminder agency (gastouderbureau) in the Netherlands, active since 2006. We provide small-scale Christian childminder care (gastouderopvang) by connecting parents with professional Christian childminders (gastouders). Our agency supports parents in finding a suitable childminder who matches their wishes and values, with personal guidance throughout the entire process. Subsidy & costs
Parents are entitled to childcare benefit (kinderopvangtoeslag) for childminder care (gastouderopvang) through Christian Childminder Agency De Herberg, because all our childminders are registered in the National Childcare Register. To be eligible for benefit, both parents must be working or studying. We guide parents in calculating and applying for childcare benefit, and offer a calculation tool through local locations to calculate net costs. As a childminder agency, we have the cashier function, which means that we pass on the care hours to the Tax Authority on a monthly basis for benefit verification and payment.
The costs of childminder care (gastouderopvang) at De Herberg consist of two components: the childminder fee and the agency costs. Together these determine the gross hourly rate that must be declared for the childcare benefit (kinderopvangtoeslag) application at the Tax Authority. Our placement staff regularly visit childminders to monitor the quality of care and ensure that they act in accordance with our pedagogical policy.

Pedagogical vision
The pedagogical goal of De Herberg is for children to develop as optimally as possible, in their own way, within a familiar environment, into independent and balanced individuals who have respect for themselves and for others. We assume that every child has a need to develop, each in their own way and at their own pace, depending on aptitude and temperament. It is important to create a situation in which children are given the space to develop in every area of development. If a child wants to discover their own possibilities and boundaries, then an environment is needed that gives children safety and trust. The agency, under new owner Maressa Biersteker Hollander since January 2025, is a small-scale organization that mediates and guides childminders (gastouders).
