For parents
Gideon's Kids offers you the opportunity to have your child cared for in a safe, homely environment by a childminder (gastouder) who is the right fit for your family. We mediate between parents and well-trained childminders who work from a conscious pedagogical vision. You choose your own childminder and have direct contact with them, while we take care of quality assurance, regular visits to the care locations, and support with any questions. Our childminders offer flexibility in care days and hours, tailored to your home situation and parenting wishes.
Subsidy & costs
Parents are entitled to childcare benefit (kinderopvangtoeslag) for childminder care via Gideon's Kids. The amount of the benefit depends on your income, the number of children, and the number of care hours. We advise you to use the Tax Authority's calculation tool to determine how much childcare benefit you may receive. Our childminders are registered in the LRK (National Childcare Register), which is a condition for receiving the benefit.
The care costs consist of two components: the placement fee to Gideon's Kids (between €25 and €100 per month) and the care fee to the childminder. Childminders set their own hourly rate; a common rate with us in 2025 is around €8.00 per child per hour. From 1 January 2026, an hourly rate of €8.49 per child will apply. For childminders who work in your home, you agree on an hourly wage together. We advise on the tax implications when a childminder works in your home more than three days per week.
Trust & screening
All childminders at Gideon's Kids must meet legal competency requirements, including a minimum age of 18 and an MBO-2 diploma in care and welfare or equivalent. In addition, we screen potential childminders for suitability, visit their care locations, and check whether they meet safety and health requirements. Childminders are offered training and are evaluated annually on their knowledge and adherence to our pedagogical policy.
Gideon's Kids meets all legal requirements for childminder agencies (gastouderbureaus) and is inspected annually by the GGD (Municipal Health Service). Our inspection reports are publicly available on our website. We work with the Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Reporting Code (Meldcode Huiselijk geweld en Kindermishandeling) and have a complaints procedure in accordance with legal guidelines. Our childminders must meet competency requirements including a minimum age of 18 and an MBO-2 diploma in care and welfare or equivalent.
Next steps
Our placement process follows five clear steps:
- Intake interview: After registration, we will call you to schedule an intake interview at your home, where we discuss your wishes and explain how we work.
- Introduction meeting: You meet a potential childminder to see if there is a good connection. Practical matters are discussed using a checklist.
- Linking meeting: If there is mutual interest, a meeting follows with all parties at the care location, where all important points are discussed and recorded in an agreement.
- Trial period: A six-week trial period during which we stay in regular contact to hear how things are going.
- Evaluation: After the trial period, the childminder and parents decide whether they wish to continue together, followed by six-monthly evaluations with the childminder and annual evaluations with parents.

Summary
This follow-up inspection of childminder agency (gastouderbureau) Gideon's Kids in Almere, conducted on 22 July 2025, shows that the violations identified in the annual inspection of 3 April 2025 have been resolved. The childminder agency (GOB), established in 2009 and active in Almere, Lelystad and Amsterdam, had shortcomings in four areas: risk assessments, annual progress meetings with childminders (gastouders), evaluation meetings with parent clients (vraagouders), and financial administration. During the follow-up inspection, it was found that the holder had conducted new risk assessments, carried out home visits, completed all mandatory meetings, and ensured that payment flows between parent clients (vraagouders), the childminder agency (GOB) and childminders (gastouders) are now being processed correctly.
