Subsidy & costs
Parents can apply for childcare benefit (kinderopvangtoeslag) for childminder care via the Tax and Customs Administration. To qualify, the childminder must be registered with a recognised childminder bureau, such as Samen. For 2026, the childcare benefit is €8.49 per child, per hour, depending on your income. The bureau can help parents with applying for the benefit and explain how much they can get back based on the number of care hours and the hourly rate. The right to childcare benefit also continues during parental leave.
The costs for childminder care consist of two parts: the childminder's hourly rate and the bureau fees. The bureau charges low bureau fees of €38 per month for the whole family (€35 according to the service area page), with no registration fees. Pay only after the first month of care. The hourly rate is determined by the childminder themselves; the advice for 2026 is between €8.00 and €8.35. Separate rates apply for holiday care or a limited number of hours. There are no hidden costs and parents only pay for the agreed hours.
