About this care
Welcome to KDV De Wittenstraat, a homely branch of De Kleine Wereld in the heart of Amsterdam-West. We are located on the ground floor of a former school building at De Wittenstraat 25, on the edge of Westerpark and the Jordaan district. Every day we provide daycare for up to 64 children aged 0 to 4, divided into three vertical groups.
Everything we do revolves around a warm, familiar environment where children can simply be themselves. Our pedagogical staff offer personal attention every day and work closely with parents to support each child’s development. We believe that childcare is much more than just care: it complements home life, a place where play and development go hand in hand.
Each afternoon our own kitchen serves a freshly cooked, healthy warm meal. Diapers and all educational and play materials are included, so parents do not need to bring anything extra. Our vertical groups allow children of different ages to learn from one another and grow up together in one close-knit community.
We are open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Under the leadership of location manager Laura Mooij we make sure every day can become a little celebration, full of discovery, play and, above all, joy.Read more

GGD Inspection
Violations
Inspection date: February 25, 2026
Strengths
- Staff provide emotional security through structure and sensitive responsiveness
- Attention to personal development, language development, and children's independence
- Sufficient staff present on inspection day and during the investigated period
- Good provisions for informing parents about permanent staff members
- Mentorship system is in place for all children
Shortcomings
- Staff attendance records do not fully match actual presence
- Policy on temporary placement in other base groups during staff shortages leads to a violation and must be revised
- Temperature in baby group bedrooms too high (21-22.5°C instead of maximum 18°C)
- Safe sleeping policy must be updated now that hanging cradles are no longer permitted
Violations
- Children from the Oceanen base group were cared for in 3 different base group rooms per week, while a maximum of 2 is permitted (Article 1.50(1)(2)(f)(h) of the Childcare Act; Article 9(6)(8)(9) of the Childcare Quality Decree)
Summary
The Municipal Health Service (GGD) inspected daycare center (kinderdagverblijf/KDV) De Kleine Wereld De Wittenstraat on 25 February 2026. The location generally provides responsible care with a good pedagogical climate. One violation was identified: children from the Oceanen base group were cared for in three different base group rooms in one week due to staff shortages and low occupancy, while a maximum of two is permitted. The location manager was unaware of this rule. The violation has been resolved; as of 1 April 2026, the group is fully operational again. Additional points of attention concerned staff attendance records and excessively high temperatures in bedrooms, for which measures have been taken. The GGD advises against imposing enforcement measures.
