About this care
BSO Schoonoord van Royen is a small-scale after-school care centre located at Sportparklaan 20 in Schoonoord, on the grounds of the public primary school Burgemeester S.J. van Royen. We are part of Stichting Kinderwereld, a reliable childcare organisation that has been active in south-east Drenthe for many years. Every weekday our team is ready to offer a safe, homely and challenging place for up to 20 school-age children before and after school, on study days and during school holidays.
Thanks to our location on the school playground, children can walk straight in after the last bell; parents do not need to make an extra journey. The space we work in is bright, colourful and equipped with different corners: a construction corner with LEGO and Kapla, a quiet reading corner with cushions and picture books, a creative studio where we do crafts, painting and handicrafts, and a movement corner where we can play table tennis, dance or do yoga exercises. In addition, we make daily use of the spacious school playground and adjacent sports field for outdoor games such as dodgeball, football and scavenger hunts.
Our pedagogical staff work according to Kinderwereld’s vision: children are given the space to be themselves, make their own choices as much as possible and learn to take others into account. We offer a fixed daily rhythm with room for both relaxation and challenge. After school there is always a healthy snack ready – think wholemeal crispbread with toppings, cucumber and a cup of water or tea. During holiday weeks we work around themes such as ‘Nature Explorers’, ‘Art & Culture’ or ‘Sports & Games’ and organise fun outings to, for example, the play forest or the swimming pool.
Parents are kept well informed via the Kinderwereld Parent Portal (Konnect). Here photos can be viewed, messages exchanged and extra childcare days easily requested. Summary
BSO Schoonoord van Royen, an after-school care (BSO) facility in Schoonoord, was inspected unannounced on 18 August 2025 by GGD Drenthe. The annual inspection shows that the location meets all assessed quality requirements: the pedagogical policy is in place and being followed, all staff members hold a valid Certificate of Conduct (Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag/VOG) and are correctly registered, the staff-to-child ratio is in order (with a maximum of 3 hours per day of accountable deviation), sufficient qualified staff are employed, each child has a fixed mentor, and the indoor and outdoor spaces are safe, spacious, and appropriately arranged for a maximum of 20 children. No violations or areas for improvement were identified. The municipality of Coevorden is advised not to take enforcement action.
