About this care
BSO It Flinterke – De Vrijbuiters in Mantgum is part of Kids First and provides after-school care for up to 30 children aged 4 to 12. We share the site with day-care centre It Flinterke at Om’e Terp 23, right next to primary school De Gielguorde, so children can walk over safely and quickly when classes end.
Our qualified pedagogical staff create a homely atmosphere where children can play, relax and build friendships. We are open before and after school, on teacher training days and throughout all school holidays. The rooms are spacious and bright, offering plenty of options for building, crafting, games or simply winding down. Outside there is a secure playground where children can run, cycle and take part in sports and movement activities.
Activities are tailored to the children’s age and interests. Younger children are given quiet moments and homework guidance, while older children are encouraged to make choices and help plan the programme. Holiday periods feature outings and themed weeks to keep things varied and fun.

- Sufficient indoor and outdoor play space (3.9 m² indoor, 5.8 m² outdoor per child)
- Mentorship is well arranged for all children
- The use of Dutch and Frisian as language of instruction meets the requirements

- Acoustics in the ground-floor group room are suboptimal; reconfiguration with more furniture and play materials is planned for summer 2026, to be evaluated in the next inspection
Summary
BSO Mantgum It Flinterke is an after-school care (BSO) in Mantgum with 30 places, part of Kids First COP groep. The Municipal Health Service (GGD) Fryslân conducted an unannounced annual inspection on 22 April 2026 on behalf of the municipality of Leeuwarden. The location meets all statutory quality requirements for pedagogical climate, staff and groups, and accommodation. The pedagogical practice demonstrates sensitive and responsive interaction with children. The staff-to-child ratio is in order and all employees hold a Certificate of Conduct (Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag/VOG). The language of instruction is Dutch and Frisian. One note concerns the suboptimal acoustics in the ground-floor group room, for which the provider has planned reconfiguration in the summer of 2026. No violations were identified and no recovery offer was made.
