Summary

The Municipal Health Service (GGD) conducted an unannounced annual inspection on July 16, 2026, at after-school care (BSO) Kinderopvang Handj in Handj in Papenhoven. The location, housed in a new building together with primary school De Kingbeek, provides care for 36 children aged 4 to 12 years in two base groups. All assessed quality requirements (pedagogical climate, staff and groups, accommodation, parental rights) are being met. The care facility has sufficient spaces, including its own group room, central area, play hall, and access to the schoolyard and nature garden. The team consists of 5 permanent pedagogical professionals. No violations or areas for improvement were identified. The previous annual inspection (2024) did result in a recovery offer for the pedagogical policy and the deployment of the pedagogical policy staff member, but this has since been successfully resolved. The GGD advises the municipality of Sittard-Geleen not to take enforcement measures.
