About this care
BSO Het Groote Huis is our after-school care facility for children from Geert Groote School I, located at Hygiëaplein 7 in Amsterdam. We provide care for children aged 4 to 12 years in an anthroposophical environment that aligns with the pedagogical vision of the Waldorf school.
After a busy school day, we want to offer children a safe, secure and joyful environment where they can play to their heart's content and find peace. Our two group spaces together accommodate up to 44 children, with each space designed to create a homely atmosphere that contrasts with the school environment.
We are there for children on school days after school until 6:30 PM. On Wednesdays, we only provide a full afternoon. During study days and holidays, we are open from 8:00 AM, so parents can also rely on us for care during these times. Our pedagogical approach seamlessly connects with Geert Groote School, with which we work intensively to optimally support each child's development.
As an anthroposophical after-school care facility, we stand for an approach where each child is seen and valued in their uniqueness. We provide space for free play experiences, creative expression and social interaction, with the child's natural life rhythms at the center.Read more

Strengths
- Pedagogical practice is strong: staff show respect for children's autonomy, guide interactions, provide structure, and set boundaries
- Good food hygiene: refrigerators clean, products labelled, temperature in order, hand washing before eating
- Safe outdoor play arrangement with clear agreements about supervision and independence
- All children have a mentor and parent meetings are held
- Sufficiently qualified staff present on inspection day
- Pedagogical coach is present weekly to support the team

- Pedagogical policy contained insufficient concrete description of maximum size, age composition, and staff deployment of base groups
- Pedagogical policy insufficiently described the pedagogical considerations for distributing staff across groups
- Pedagogical policy contained insufficient frameworks for deviating from the staff-child ratio
- Children were not always cared for in fixed base groups; groups were still being merged
- An adult with a valid first aid certificate was not always present (1 and 8 May 2026)
- Reporting protocol lacked assignment of responsibilities to staff members in the step-by-step plan
- Staff had insufficient knowledge of the duty to report, consultation options, and obligation to file a report (MOA)
- Combined parent committee had no member with a child at the after-school care (BSO)
