About this care
BSO Buitenburen 'Op Stap' is an after-school care facility located at Sumatrastraat 120 in Leiden. We provide care for up to 20 children from the age of 6 in a single outdoor group. Our location is known for its focus on outdoor activities and nature experiences. Children can come here after school for adventurous outdoor activities, where we regularly go on excursions to explore nature. This inspection report concerns a follow-up investigation on 5 March 2026 at after-school care (BSO) Buitenburen 'Op Stap' in Leiden, conducted by Municipal Health Service (GGD) Hollands Midden. The investigation took place following previously identified shortcomings in the area of safety and health, specifically an unsafe situation regarding drowning during activities near water. The provider has since taken adequate measures: children without a swimming certificate wear yellow vests for extra visibility, staff members walk around to maintain oversight, all children receive swimming lessons, and new children are only accepted with a swimming certificate. These measures are documented in an action plan. The new measures were not yet fully implemented on the day of inspection (yellow vests had not yet arrived), but the policy was described. The provider now meets the assessed requirements.
