About this care
Welcome to KDV Berend Botje, location Schellinkhout. We are a small-scale daycare center located at Dorpsweg 109A in the heart of Schellinkhout. Our location provides care for a maximum of 8 children aged 0 to 4 years, allowing us to offer a homely and familiar environment where each child receives the attention they deserve.
At Berend Botje, we work according to our pedagogical vision 'Growing through play'. We believe that children develop best through playful discoveries in a safe environment. Our pedagogical staff follow each child's development through our child tracking system (KVS) and tailor activities to the individual needs and developmental stage of your child.
We offer VVE programs (Pre- and Early School Education) to stimulate language and thinking skills development. Our daily schedule is calmly structured with fixed moments for playing, eating, sleeping and outdoor play. We have our own outdoor playground where children can romp and discover.
For the youngest ones, we provide bottle feeding, diapers and care products. Breastfeeding is also fully supported. We take dietary requirements and allergies into account. Children sleep in separate bedrooms or quiet corners in the group, depending on their age and needs.
Parents stay informed through our secure Parent App with photos and reports of the day. We work with a parent committee and organize annual parent meetings. Our location is open 51 weeks per year from Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 6:30 PM.

GGD Inspection
Improvements needed
Inspection date: July 6, 2026
Strengths
- Sufficient indoor and outdoor space for expansion to 15 childcare places
- Pedagogical policy plan meets requirements following revision
- Administration is complete and available to the supervisory authority in a timely manner
- Parents are adequately informed about the relocation
- Early childhood education through the Startblokken programme is well described
Shortcomings
- The merging of daycare center (kinderdagverblijf/KDV) and after-school care (BSO) between 5:30-6:30 PM is insufficiently described in concrete terms and will be assessed during the next inspection
- Implementation of the pedagogical policy, staff-to-child ratio and group size in practice must be assessed at the next inspection
- Safety and health policy in combination with practice will be further assessed at the next inspection
Summary
On 6 July 2026, the Municipal Health Service (GGD) Hollands Noorden conducted an incidental inspection at daycare center (kinderdagverblijf/KDV) Berend Botje, Schellinkhout location, in connection with an application to increase the number of childcare places from 8 to 15 and relocate to new premises. The inspection included an assessment of indoor and outdoor spaces, document review and discussions with management. All assessed requirements have been met. The new accommodation has sufficient space (55.3 m² indoor, 50 m² outdoor) and the pedagogical and safety documentation is in order. However, the merging of daycare center (kinderdagverblijf/KDV) and after-school care (BSO) in practice still needs to be assessed at a subsequent inspection, as does the actual implementation of the pedagogical policy and early childhood education programme Startblokken.
