About this care
Welcome to BLOS childcare Karawanken, our spacious and versatile location at Karawanken 1 in Utrecht. We provide childcare for 152 children aged 0 to 4 years in a homely and safe environment. Our location features various themed spaces specifically designed for the developmental needs of young children. Think of a creative studio where children can be artistic, a music room where we sing and make music together, and a gym where children can move and play.
We work with horizontal groups, where babies, toddlers and preschoolers are cared for in separate age groups. This means our pedagogical staff can fully focus on the specific needs of each age group. For the youngest ones we have quiet sleeping areas with cribs and playpens, while toddlers can play in more challenging spaces.
Our outdoor space is a true playground where children can romp, build sandcastles and discover nature. We believe it's important for children to spend lots of time outdoors and learn about nature. Therefore, we regularly organize nature excursions in the immediate area.
At BLOS Karawanken we work with VVE (preschool education) programs focused on language development and social skills. We read picture books daily, sing songs and play language games. We also pay attention to creative development through crafts, painting and building.
We provide full care, including diapers, wipes, bottle feeding and warm meals. For children with allergies or special dietary needs, we naturally prepare appropriate meals. Strengths
- Staff followed all prescribed measures in accordance with policy and protocols
- Up-to-date safety and health policy with clear risk descriptions and action plans
- Good communication to parents about heat and request to keep children at home
- Sleeping rooms with fixed air conditioning units were well cooled
- Team meetings and staff instructions on the heat protocol were in place

- Failure to act in accordance with safety and health policy regarding indoor climate: temperatures in group rooms and sleeping rooms unacceptably high (24-29°C) with risks of health complaints, overheating, dehydration, heat stress and cot death
- Management took insufficiently decisive measures when prescribed measures were insufficiently effective and temperature was no longer manageable
Summary
GGD inspection at daycare center (kinderdagverblijf/KDV) Basker - Karawanken in Utrecht following anonymous reports about high temperatures. The unannounced visit on 24 June 2026 found unacceptably high temperatures in multiple group and sleeping rooms (24-29°C). Staff took all prescribed measures, but management did not act adequately when these were insufficiently effective. Structural problem: no sustainable solution for years despite warning signs. Violation of Article 1.49/1.50 of the Childcare Act. Following the recovery offer, groups without air conditioning were closed, mobile air conditioners were installed as a temporary measure, and agreements were made on deciding to close earlier (partially). Quotation for fixed air conditioning units requested. Sustainable recovery must be assessed in follow-up investigation.

Als Tunnel schon oft recht voll und Staus sind vorprogrammiert, am besten in der Woche oder morgens oder spät abends fahren.
