Wasko Het Kompas BSO

BSO Het Kompas is located inside primary school ‘School met de Bijbel Het Kompas’ at Scheepsbouwplein 10 in Alblasserdam. We provide after-school care for children from Grade 1 through Grade 8. Because we are literally situated in the school building, children simply walk down the corridor to our space when classes end; this creates a calm and familiar transition. Every activity we organise is discussed with the children. They know best what they feel like doing and where their talents lie. Together we decide which activities are on the programme. Our recurring themes are ‘discover’ and ‘inspire’; we challenge children to try new things and guide them in that process. We work from a Christian identity: respect for one another, positive attention and space for every child’s faith and life-convictions are central. During school weeks we offer after-school care; in the school holidays we surprise the children with an extensive holiday programme packed with special activities and outings. Parents can also opt to combine care with our Sport BSO or Nature BSO, giving children even more movement or nature experience. We apply a positive approach: we highlight what is going well, give children confidence and let them make their own choices. In this way they grow in self-confidence and further develop their talents. Our location has room for a maximum of 30 children, which allows us to be a close-knit team where every child is truly seen. We work closely with the school’s teachers so that the line between school and care is seamless.
