About this care
Welcome to Montessori day-care Casa dei Bambini at De Meesterstraat 40 in Schiedam. We provide small-scale childcare in a homely atmosphere for children aged 0 to 4 years. Our day-care is located in the same building as Montessori Primary School Schiedam and we work closely with the school, creating a smooth transition for your child.
We follow Maria Montessori’s vision: “Help me to do it myself”. Children are given space to make their own choices and develop at their own pace. Our specially trained pedagogical staff carefully observe each child and offer activities that match his or her developmental stage. The group is equipped with Montessori materials that invite independent discovery and learning.
We use vertical groups: children from 0 to 4 years are together. This stimulates social development; younger children learn from the older ones and older children develop care and responsibility. Both full-day and half-day care are available and we are open from 7:00 AM to 6:30 PM on weekdays, excluding national holidays.
Outdoor play is part of our daily routine. We have a garden/playground where children can move freely and explore nature. The small scale (about 10-15 children) ensures a familiar, safe environment in which each child receives the attention they deserve. Parents experience us as a warm place where their child enjoys going.Read more
Practical info
Settling in
At Casa dei Bambini, we always start gently with settling-in days following a clear settling-in schedule. Day 1: visit together for half an hour to an hour. Day 2: visit together for one to two hours. Day 3: child attends for almost half a day (e.g. 09:00-12:00), parent steps away briefly. Days 4 & 5: child attends for about one and a half half-days, parent leaves the group after half an hour. This way, child, parents and staff can gradually get used to each other.
Pedagogy methods
GGD Inspection
Violations
Inspection date: June 3, 2026
Strengths
- The pedagogical policy is described in extensive and concrete detail
- The pedagogical practice is sensitive and responsive; children are playfully challenged
- Staff guide children well in social interactions
- Rules and agreements are clearly explained to children
- Stability of care for children is ensured through permanent staff members and mentors
- Safety and health policy and complaint handling are in order
Shortcomings
- Staff schedules and attendance records must be kept more completely, with indication of children's actual arrival and departure times
- Internal monitoring of professional qualifications must be tightened
Violations
- An employee without the correct professional qualification was deployed as a qualified staff member in daycare (qualification requirements)
- The staff-to-child ratio could not be demonstrated due to incomplete staff schedules and attendance records; additionally, an unqualified employee was counted within the ratio
Summary
The annual inspection of Montessori Kindercentrum Schiedam, a daycare center (kinderdagverblijf/KDV) for ages 0-4 with 14 places, presents a mixed picture. The pedagogical practice and policy are strong, with attentive staff who stimulate children's development. However, two serious shortcomings were identified in the area of staffing: an employee without the correct professional qualification was deployed as a qualified staff member, and the staff schedules and attendance records were incomplete, making it impossible to demonstrate compliance with the staff-to-child ratio. The holder has taken measures and the employee will no longer be deployed as a qualified staff member until the diploma is obtained. The Municipal Health Service (GGD) advises enforcement.
