BSO Internationale School Leiden is located on the ground floor of the International School Leiden’s modern campus at Van Vollenhovenkade 15. We provide after-school care for up to 44 children aged 4 to 12 in a bilingual Dutch-English setting. Our professional staff collect the children after school and welcome them with a healthy snack and story time. The afternoon continues with daily outdoor play—garden games, sports, or nature exploration—followed by child-led clubs that change every term: cooking, coding, arts, science experiments and more. During school holidays we transform into a full-day programme packed with themed projects, field trips around Leiden and special guests. We share the building with ISL, ensuring a smooth transition from classroom to after-school fun. Strengths
- Staff consistently speak Dutch with the children, including during informal interactions
- Supportive materials are used, such as Dutch books and vocabulary post-it notes

Violations
- During the inspection on 27 November 2025, it was found that English was being spoken at the after-school care (BSO), while Dutch must be the language of communication. This did not match earlier statements from the provider and was not mentioned in the pedagogical policy. These shortcomings had also been identified in previous investigations.
- During the first follow-up investigation on 19 March 2026, the adjusted working method had not yet been fully implemented; English was still regularly used outside the agreed exception situations
Summary
The Municipal Health Service (GGD) Hollands Midden carried out a follow-up investigation at BSO Internationale School Leiden, an after-school care (BSO) of FloreoKids with 44 places for children aged 4 to 11. The investigation focused on the use of Dutch as the language of communication, following earlier findings that English was being spoken. At the first visit on 19 March 2026, the new working method had not yet been fully implemented; more Dutch was being spoken, but English was still regularly used outside the agreed exception situations. At the second visit on 16 April 2026, staff spoke Dutch consistently with the children, including during informal moments. The location now meets the requirements for the use of the language of communication. There is no grounds for enforcement.
