About this care
BSO De Vliegende Hollander is part of Kindercentrum de Vuurtoren and is located on the ground floor of primary school De Driemaster at Cortenaerpad 30 in Nijmegen. We provide small-scale after-school care for up to 20 children aged 8 to 13 years, all within a single base group. Our approach follows the “living-room model”: a homely, warm and familiar environment where children can pursue their own initiatives after school.
The space is furnished with as many natural materials and calming colours as possible to create a sense of peace and security. Children can choose between different corners such as a reading nook, a craft table and a construction area, while ample outdoor play space is also available. We work closely with De Driemaster primary school, ensuring a smooth and familiar hand-over between school and after-school care. For parents this means one address, one route and one familiar face at the door.
Our team consists of experienced pedagogical staff who know and guide each child personally. Together with the children we draw up an annual activity calendar that leaves room for their own input, themed weeks and relaxation. During school holidays we organise extra outings and workshops that match the group’s interests. Parents are actively involved through our joint parent committee, which represents both locations of Kindercentrum de Vuurtoren.
Kindercentrum de Vuurtoren is a private organisation with two after-school care locations in Nijmegen. We are known for our neighbourhood-oriented approach and our involvement in local activities. Our door is always open to interested families; feel free to make an appointment for a tour or an introductory meeting.Read more
GGD Inspection
Violations
Inspection date: November 27, 2025
Violations
- The pedagogical policy plan did not meet legal requirements: missing description of considerations regarding staffing levels, base groups, children's needs, and stability of care (remedied)
Summary
This Municipal Health Service (GGD) inspection report concerns a follow-up investigation at after-school care (BSO) de Vuurtoren in Nijmegen on 27 November 2025. This investigation followed previous violations identified during the annual inspection, when the pedagogical policy plan did not meet legal requirements. The provider received a recovery offer in November 2024 but failed to submit a revised plan within the deadline. The shortcomings have since been remedied: the required descriptions regarding staffing levels and child numbers have been included in the new policy plan of August 2025. Due to the merger of two locations into one, the requirement regarding cross-location care has lapsed. The GGD concludes that no violations remain and advises no enforcement action.
Reviews
Wat een fijne school. Onze jongste dochter heeft de laatste drie jaar vd basisschool hier met plezier gedaan. Betrokken directie, bevlogen leerkracht...
Een onwijs leuke school waar iedereen zich thuis voelt.
