Welcome to VeenKids Childcare De Oranjetip, our homely daycare centre located at Spiesheem 54 in the new-build Oost district of Veenendaal. Just like the cheerful butterfly Ona Oranjetip – after whom we are named – our children flutter through the colourful and lively spaces of the Ontmoetingshuis with curiosity and playful joy. Since 14 August 2017 we have provided care for up to 41 children aged 0–4 in small, horizontal groups, ensuring every child receives the personal attention they deserve. Our qualified pedagogical staff, led by coordinator Danielle, create a safe environment every day in which children can develop freely. We use the Uk & Puk method: a hand-puppet that experiences the day together with the children, playfully stimulating language and social skills. We also practise children’s sign language in the group to promote communication; we see that children connect with each other and with us more quickly and easily this way. Together with Veenendaal Public Library we organise regular reading sessions through Boekstart, so that even the youngest children are introduced to books and stories at an early age. De Oranjetip is housed in a multifunctional building that gives us access to our own gym and various multi-purpose rooms. Children can move, build, dance and discover to their heart’s content. The spacious outdoor areas – with natural play equipment and a sandpit – invite climbing, scrambling and playing together. We pay great attention to healthy food and exercise: our menus are carefully composed, fresh fruit and healthy snacks are always available and we only serve water or unsweetened tea. For the very youngest we have separate sleeping rooms with cots and toddler beds where rest and routine are central. Bottles are prepared on request from parents and breastfeeding is also warmly welcomed. We work with fixed carers who get to know each child well and make the hand-over home as smooth as possible. Parents can choose half or full days and we offer flexible childcare hours from 07:15 to 18:15. In short, at De Oranjetip every child feels seen, heard and safe – exactly as it should be.
