Thuishuis It Bernetreintsje is a small-scale daycare centre located at Stationsplein 30 in the heart of Heerenveen. We provide care for up to ten children aged 0-4 in one homelike vertical group, allowing siblings and peers of different ages to play and learn together. The former station restaurant has been transformed into a cheerful, safe haven where Jitske and Tiny Dijkstra, our permanent professional staff, give personal attention every single day. As a certified bilingual daycare centre we work in both Dutch and Frisian. We enrich the children’s language environment and stimulate their bilingual development through play. Frisian-speaking children broaden their mother-tongue base, while Dutch-speaking children naturally pick up a second language. All activities are guided by the Uk & Puk early-years programme, which playfully and creatively fosters the all-round development of children from 0-4. Through active play children develop speech and language skills, social-emotional abilities, and fine and gross motor skills. Our activities are varied and development-oriented: we sing, craft and paint, go on outings to the forest and explore the world around us. We count and read aloud, but above all we provide space for free play and individual attention. Children sleep in separate rest areas and enjoy a healthy lunch with fruit and drinks. We respect individual rhythms and preferences; during the intake meeting we agree with parents on feeding, sleeping and daily routines. Flexibility is key: parents can choose fixed or flexible childcare hours from Monday to Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. We are open 47 weeks a year and apply a one-month notice period. Before care begins, children and parents complete a gentle three-step settling-in period to build trust. After six weeks we evaluate together, followed by an annual review.
