BSO Theo Thijssenschool

BSO Theo Thijssenschool is an in-house after-school care facility located in the renovated school building at Anjeliersstraat 157 in the heart of Amsterdam's Jordaan district. We exclusively provide care for students of our own school, ensuring children remain in their familiar environment. During the 2021 renovation, we created specially designed BSO spaces on the top floor: a cozy, playful and challenging environment where every child can thrive. Our unique concept is characterized by close collaboration between school and after-school care. Our pedagogical staff work as classroom assistants in the kindergarten groups during school hours, ensuring the youngest children always see familiar faces. This continuous learning line creates optimal alignment between school time and after-school care. Parents appreciate this approach: during our first parent satisfaction survey, we received an average rating of 8.3. We operate with three horizontal groups. In De Uil and De Reiger, children aged 4 to 7 are cared for (maximum 22 children per group), while De Specht is for children aged 7 to 13 (maximum 24 children). After school, we start with a shared meal of fruit and drinks. Children can then choose from various activities such as crafts, sports, cooking or computer activities. During holidays, we offer an adapted program with fun outings and activities from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Our BSO is fully managed in-house, meaning we can directly respond to the needs of our children and parents. Communication between pedagogical staff and teachers is intensive, with daily information exchange about each child's development and well-being.
