Welcome to ’t Sparretje, the small-scale day-care centre run by Stichting Kinderdagverblijf Brabant in the heart of Best. Since 2012 we have been providing a warm, safe place for up to 19 children aged 0–4 at our location on Spar 2. Because our group is deliberately small and stable, every child knows every staff member by name – and vice versa. That familiar face at the door brings comfort and makes ’t Sparretje a second home for many families. Play-based learning built around themes is at the heart of what we do. Each period we explore a recognisable theme that connects with young children’s world – think “Autumn Animals”, “Building and Making”, or “Light and Dark”. Within the theme we co-create creative activities with the children: building with blocks and shaving foam, stamping a railway track and then running a train over it, or crafting seasonal decorations. A volunteer from the local library reads aloud every Monday; the children look forward to it all week. In this playful way we stimulate language development and a love of books. We operate one vertical group where babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers play and learn together. Younger children observe the older ones, while the older children practise patience and lend a helping hand. This mixed-age approach nurtures social development and gives every child a sense of belonging. A predictable daily rhythm built on calm and regularity offers security and structure. Movement is as important as rest: we go outside every single day – even when it’s breezy or drizzling – so the children can move freely in our safe outdoor area. Healthy nutrition is part of the package. We follow the Dutch “Wheel of Five” guidelines and serve fresh, largely organic meals and snacks. Special dietary needs or allergies are happily accommodated. Parents experience our communication as open and personal: we take time for a chat at drop-off and pick-up, send photos and brief updates by e-mail, and schedule parent meetings twice a year. Because we regularly welcome English-speaking families, we can also provide information and hold conversations in English. In short, at ’t Sparretje your child feels at home.
