Welcome to the daycare centre of the Stichting Joodse Kindergemeenschap Cheider, located at Zeelandstraat 11 in the heart of Amsterdam’s Buitenveldert district. As part of the only orthodox Jewish school in the Netherlands, we provide childcare and early-years education for children aged 0 to 4 in a safe, warm and recognisably Jewish environment. Our daycare is an integral part of the Cheider complex, which brings together toddler care, primary education and secondary education under one roof. The youngest children already begin learning the Hebrew alphabet at the age of four and are playfully introduced to Jewish traditions, festivals and prayer. We follow the Montessori programme, allowing space for independence, discovery and development at each child’s own pace. Safety is paramount. The premises are surrounded by a permanently guarded, two-metre-high steel fence with pointed tops. Access is via a secure air-lock with two steel doors that are continuously monitored by security staff. Inside the daycare a calm, homely atmosphere prevails, giving every child room to grow in an environment that reflects the values and customs of orthodox Jewish life. Our pedagogical staff are knowledgeable, committed and visibly express Jewish identity. They guide the children with plenty of individual attention and ensure a smooth transition to the kindergarten and primary school located in the same building. We believe it is essential that children feel safe and secure so they can develop to their full potential.
