SKSG Roezemoes

SKSG Roezemoes is located in the heart of Groningen’s musical Oosterpoort district, just a stone’s throw from the conservatory and the Oosterpoort cultural centre. As part of the Integral Child Centre (IKC) Borgman Oosterpoort, we share the building with BSO Roezemoes and Borgman primary school. This means children aged 0–4 can grow up in one familiar place and make a smooth transition to the kindergarten classes next door. Our baby group ‘Maatjes’ (0–2 years) welcomes a maximum of twelve children in a calm, low-stimulus environment. We follow the Emmi Pikler approach: every child is given the time and space to explore the world at his or her own pace. A consistent team of pedagogical staff provides loving, individual care. Breast-feeding is welcome on site; we have a comfortable chair and privacy for mothers. The toddler group ‘Piccolo’ (2–4 years) has room for up to sixteen children and is arranged with different play-and-learning corners. Toys are placed at child height so toddlers can choose freely and follow their own interests. We provide at least 960 hours of pre-school education per year, spread over 16 hours a week. For this we use the Startblokken Early Childhood Education programme, whose themes connect with the world of young children. Music receives special attention: our staff are trained to lead musical activities. Singing, dancing and discovering sounds together are part of every week. Each child is guided by a fixed mentor. This mentor is the regular contact for parents and closely follows the child’s development. Through the SKSG app parents receive daily photos and messages, allowing them to stay in touch while at work. We follow a clear daily rhythm that offers rest and regularity. There is time for sleeping, playing, eating and outdoor play. Our natural garden invites exploration: sand, water, greenery and a safe baby meadow. In fine weather the youngest children nap outdoors in the fresh air. Healthy food is part of our vision: warm meals, fresh fruit and snacks are prepared on site. Special dietary needs are discussed personally with parents. In short, at SKSG Roezemoes children aged 0–4 find a warm, homely place where fun, development and music are central.
