SKSG Melkweg

SKSG Melkweg is located in the Paddepoel district of Groningen and offers childcare, playgroup and after-school care under one roof. Our daycare facility focuses on children aged 0 to 4 years and has a capacity of 71 places. We operate with horizontal groups: two baby groups (0-2 years) and two toddler groups (2-4 years). Each group has its own name: Goudmaan, Zilverster, Witte Dwerg and Rode Reus. Every child is assigned a fixed mentor and a home group that serves as a safe base. Our vision is that children are explorers who discover the world at their own pace. We offer experiential learning: children are given space to choose and explore for themselves. Babies are challenged with sensory boards, crawling elements and cradle swings according to the Emmi Pikler methodology. For toddlers, we work in themed activities that connect with their world of experience, such as crafts, building, singing and lots of outdoor play. We maintain a fixed daily rhythm with rest and feeding moments, tailored to each child's individual needs. SKSG Melkweg works with Startblokken, an early childhood education program focused on language, math, motor skills and social-emotional development. We observe children daily and invite parents annually for a development discussion. Our staff are trained in early childhood education or are following the training. We also provide healthy and responsible meals, including organic food. The outdoor space is green, spacious and challenging, shared with the Bisschop Bekkers school. We work closely with the school and the neighborhood to create a positive social climate. We believe personal attention and a familiar environment are essential. Parents are actively involved through the parent portal and during daily handovers. We offer flexible childcare, day swapping is possible and we have generous opening hours from 07:30 to 18:00.
