SKSG Klavertje 3

Welcome to SKSG Klavertje 3, our cosy day-care centre in Groningen’s Korrewegwijk district. Babies and toddlers each have their own building around a beautiful inner garden. We provide care for up to 68 children, divided between separate baby and toddler wings. Our baby groups follow the Emmi Pikler approach: a warm nest with familiar pedagogical staff, a heated floor to crawl on and a private baby garden to explore outside. Many children then drift off to sleep in the Lutjepotjes, our outdoor sleeping huts made in Groningen. The toddler groups use the Early Childhood Education programme Startblokken. Every two months we introduce a new theme – such as colours & shapes, nature or cooking – through which we playfully stimulate language, social skills, cognitive and motor development. We read theme-related books, create our own memory games with vegetables and visit the local greengrocer. In our kitchen the children cut and peel fruit for a smoothie or knead pizza dough; proudly serving their home-made soup to friends. Healthy and tasty food is important to us. That is why fresh fruit and vegetables are on the table every day, we cook warm meals regularly and try to buy organic whenever possible. Even on birthdays we choose healthy treats. Our beautiful inner garden is the beating heart of the location. Through the garden children can easily walk to each other to play or eat with a sibling or friend. We go outside every day; outdoor play is not only fun, it is also good for movement, social skills and problem-solving thinking. A fixed daily rhythm gives children regularity and a sense of security. We alternate active moments with rest, always tailored to the individual needs of the child. For babies we fully adapt to the home rhythm up to about 1 year; breastfeeding can be given on site or via expressed milk in a bottle. Each child also has a personal mentor who observes development and keeps in touch with parents. Parents arrange everything related to childcare easily in our secure Parent App: report holidays, request swap days, view photos or read the daily hand-over.
