BSO De Buitenboel

BSO De Buitenboel is a small-scale after-school care centre in the heart of Gieten. We provide care for up to forty children, split into two groups of twenty each. Our younger group is located right next to the day-care centre, so children already know each other and the transition is smooth. Older children (8-12) have their own space in the front house, complete with chill room, craft corner and Lego room. We believe in growing up green and healthy. That is why we head outdoors every day: by stint to the forest, the playground, or during holidays to the Boomkroonpad and the gnome garden in Eext. Our spacious garden offers a football pitch, paved area for cycling and a natural section with a tree stage, water track and willow hut. In spring we work together in the vegetable garden; the harvest is used to prepare healthy snacks and drinks. Our activity programme is varied: nature experience activities, drama, creative workshops and sports. Every Wednesday afternoon we host an open craft session for children aged 6-12 from the whole neighbourhood. We also cook regularly with the children in our homely kitchen and provide nutritious snacks with as little sugar, salt and artificial additives as possible. Our opening hours are generous: care until 18.30 and, if required, from before 07.00. This gives flexible before- and after-school care that fits the rhythm of parents and children.
