Peuteropvang Piraatje

Peuteropvang ‘t Piraatje is located in the scenic nature reserve surrounding Fort Vreeswijk in Nieuwegein. Housed in a charming historic building, we provide care for toddlers aged 2 to 4. Indoors, the spacious layout is designed entirely around the toddler experience: different play corners invite children to play alone or together, discover and learn. Our pedagogical approach is grounded in the “Pedagogisch Hart” (Pedagogical Heart) of Kind & Co ludens. We build on four pillars: every child should feel happy and have fun, be given trust and space to grow and discover, play in a rich environment, and learn to live together in a mini-society. Each day we translate this vision into practice by focusing on well-being, self-confidence, curiosity and social skills. We systematically use the Uk & Puk programme. Together with Puk – a familiar hand puppet – the children explore varied themes such as “this is me”, “food and drink” or “the seasons”. Each theme includes songs, stories, games and craft activities that stimulate language, numeracy, motor skills and social-emotional development. Parents receive a newsletter on a regular basis describing what we have done and how they can continue the learning at home. Outside, a safe and challenging playground with natural materials and play equipment encourages gross-motor development. Thanks to our location we can often venture onto the grounds of Fort Vreeswijk. In summer, for example, we have a fixed outing ritual: feeding the sheep and ducks together. These direct encounters with animals and nature deepen children’s understanding of their environment and teach respect for other living things. In short, at peuteropvang ‘t Piraatje children are given every opportunity to explore the world through play, prepare for primary school and have fun in a safe, familiar environment.
