Peuteropvang Wjelsryp

Peuteropvang Wjelsryp is a warm, small-scale toddler day-care located in the heart of the Frisian village of Wjelsryp. We provide a safe and familiar play-and-learn environment for up to 16 toddlers aged 2 to 4. Our team takes all the time and attention each child needs, allowing every toddler to develop at his or her own pace. We operate bilingually in Frisian and Dutch; this means we speak Frisian with one another. By choosing this language, children immediately feel at home and we connect seamlessly with the local community. Because we are housed in the same building as the primary school, the transition to elementary education is small and familiar. With us, everything revolves around playing together, discovering and growing. We read aloud every day from books that match the toddlers’ world of experience. In addition, we sing and dance a lot; songs enrich language and movement stimulates motor skills. We also go out regularly. During our excursions through the village we might look for a bird’s nest or explore nature around a current theme. This way the children learn about the world around them through play. Our spaces are set up as a challenging environment in which toddlers can play, build, craft and discover imaginative role-play. We use horizontal groups so that children can play and learn with peers. The small scale of our day-care ensures that every child is seen and heard.
