SKO PO De Uilenhorst

Welcome to SKO PO De Uilenhorst, our daycare centre on the ground floor of primary school De Uilenhorst at Noordsingel 70 in Wezep. We are part of Stichting Kindcentrum Oldebroek (SKO) and provide pre-school education (VE) to a maximum of 16 children aged 2 to 4 years at this location. Our pedagogical staff work closely with the school’s teachers. Because we are literally located inside the same building, children already walk the familiar corridors before their fourth birthday and recognise many faces that will later be in Year 1. This horizontal group structure – where children aged 2 to 4 play and learn together – offers calm and familiarity and makes the transition to primary education smooth and confident. We focus on language and speech development, social skills and independence. When a child needs extra support, for example with language delay or adjustment difficulties, we can immediately start a VE programme. Parents are closely involved; we have weekly contact about progress and we align our activities with what the child needs at home. Our room is bright and homely, with different corners: a construction corner, a quiet reading corner and a creative table where we start every morning with a song or story time. We work with themes that match the world of toddlers: seasons, animals, traffic and emotions. Outside, the children use the safe schoolyard with natural play equipment; when the weather is nice we eat outside and play games that stimulate gross motor skills. In short, at SKO PO De Uilenhorst we offer a familiar, small-scale environment in which every child feels seen and challenged. We prepare toddlers in a playful way for primary school and give parents the confidence that their child will start Year 1 with self-confidence.
